Welcome to the first day of meteorological autumn as we shift gears from summer weather into more fall-like weather. A new season folks. However, we still have a summer air mass overhead, and we should climb to perhaps another 90-degree high today. Then we cool in the 80 to 85-degree range Friday through Labor Day and, perhaps, beyond.
Wednesday’s high in Vancouver of 92 degrees was the 25th day of 90 degrees or better. Can we do it one more time today? If so, 26 would be in the books. It appeared earlier we could get somewhat hot later next week, but those odds are disappearing looking at forecast charts Wednesday afternoon.
On Tuesday, we placed a new record high in the books with 98 degrees. That surpassed a 100-year record set back in 1918. If you’re going to break a record, make it a good one, I guess. Portland also set a record high of 100 degrees breaking 98 degrees set in 1987. Their records at the airport go back to 1940.
Our friends to the north, not to be outdone, also broke temperature records on Tuesday. Seattle reached 90 degrees surpassing 88 degrees set in 1987. They also tied the number of 90 degree or higher days in a year at 12. A notable number for them, don’t you think?
