Union erased an early six-run deficit to beat West Valley of Yakima 12-7 to capture third place at the 4A slowpitch softball state tournament in Yakima.
It was the first state trophy the Titans have won in slowpitch softball.
West Valley scored twice in the first and four times in the second to lead 6-0. But Union rallied for three in the third, then took the lead with a four-run fifth inning. Sophia Tumelty’s run-scoring single put Union ahead to stay.
Ella Berfanger went 3 for four with a double and two RBI for Union. Zena McKenzie and Sophia Tumelty each added two hits and three RBI. Madison Wirth was 3 for 4 and April Paulat was 3 for 4 with two RBI.
Union pounded out 25 hits in an 18-8 win over Woodinville in a loser-out game earlier Saturday.
