BELLINGHAM — Halloween is only days away, and if you’re looking for a last-minute costume idea, a recent report has determined each state’s most popular Halloween costume.
Boohoo, a fashion website, analyzed Google Trends data to find the most-Googled Halloween costumes in the past month in each state.
The report looked at the most popular classic costumes and the most popular pop culture costumes.
Most popular Halloween costumes in Washington state
In Washington state, the most popular classic Halloween costume is a witch. The witch costume was also the most popular traditional costume in the country as 20 states searched the most for “witch costume.”
The report credits the film “Hocus Pocus” for the popularity of witch costumes over the past three decades, and credits the recent release of “Hocus Pocus 2” with the witch costume popularity this year.
Washington state’s most popular pop culture-inspired costume is also “Hocus Pocus.”
Most popular Halloween costumes in the United States
According to the report, Harley Quinn is the most popular pop culture costume this Halloween, with 13 states searching for the costume the most. Chucky, the horror movie villain, is the second most popular costume searched for in the country, followed by searches for “Top Gun” costumes.
Other states in the Pacific Northwest favor pirate and dinosaur costumes, and pop culture characters such as Poison Ivy and “Top Gun.”
