Seton Catholic beat rival King’s Way Christian in a shootout 55-34 on Friday to earn the Trico League’s No. 3 seed to the postseason.

Joe Callerame and Jacob Williams led a strong rushing attack for the Cougars. Callerame rushed for 160 yards and two touchdowns He also caught a 54-yard touchdown from Kolton Gesser and recovered a fumble for a touchdown.

Williams ended with 182 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.

“Joe and I have been playing together for years, since we were kids,” Williams said of Callerame. “We know how to work together to slowly pick apart defenses.”

Both of Callerame’s rushing touchdowns came in the first quarter as Seton Catholic built an early 20-0 lead.

“We have a strong O-line that gives us the room to make things happen,” Callerame said. “It’s hard too at this league where a lot of kids play both sides of the ball because they’ll play offense and then have to switch and try to stop Jacob and I. It can be a lot but that’s where we get them.”

King’s Way wouldn’t go down quietly. Brayden Schiefer threw for 180 yards and three touchdowns, hitting six different receivers.

Ryan Charlton had 94 rushing yards for the Knights, who head to the postseason as the Trico’s No. 4 seed.

“This was a rival game of course,” Williams said. “But heading into playoffs, this was a statement game to both those teams we lost to and the teams we’ll have to face and we showed our good our offense can be tonight.”
