After winning its opener Friday, the Union slowpitch softball team lost to Central Valley of Spokane 16-5 in the semifinals of the 4A state tournament in Yakima.
The Titans (18-6) will face Woodinville or North Creek in a third-place semifinal at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Gateway Sports Complex.
Union opened Friday with an 11-1 win over Bothell. Zena McKenzie went 2 for 2 with a double and two RBI, and April Paulet went 2 for 2 with a double, run and RBI as the Titans pounded out 11 hits in a the five-inning win.
Despite scoring four times in the top of the fifth, Union fell to Central Valley in five innings after the Bears scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game on a 10-run rule.
