CENTRALIA — State Sen. Lynda Wilson, R-Vancouver, released a statement on Tuesday that raised questions about the state Department of Revenue’s continued work on a rule to implement a capital gains tax.
Wilson refers to it as an income tax, even after the tax was struck down by a Douglas County judge eight months ago.
“I can understand why the Democrat legislators who approved the state income tax would hope the state Supreme Court will reinstate it,” Wilson said. “But the Department of Revenue is acting like the justices have already overruled the lower court, even though the case hasn’t even been argued before them yet. As if it’s a done deal.”
Wilson, who serves as the top Republican on the Senate Ways and Means Committee, called on Gov. Jay Inslee to stop the process. She compared the Department of Revenue’s actions in the face of court rulings to claims by Inslee of threats to democracy.
