CAMAS — The Camas volleyball team clinched at least a share of the 4A Greater St. Helens League title on Thursday, but the Papermakers have their sights set on something bigger.

“We’re definitely trying to prepare for the postseason,” sophomore Kendall Mairs said. “That will be more competition, like faster play. So we’ve been working on the little things, preparing for that.”

The Papermaker (12-1) came into Thursday’s match with Skyview having won their last nine matches in row.

In fact, the last time Camas even dropped a set in a match was during the Papermakers’ previous matchup with Skyview on Sept. 27.

Camas did not drop a set on Thursday, racing past the Storm 25-11, 25-17, 25-12. Mairs had 10 kills, 13 assists, seven digs and three blocks. Mia Thorburn added 13 digs and nine assists, and Halle Reiter had 21 digs.

“We’ve been to a couple of tournaments earlier this year that had some really good competition,” Mairs said. “Right now, I think we’re ranked fifth (in the state). So we’re trying to get to state and prove we’re better than that.”

The Papermakers will complete the regular season with matches against Union and Battle Ground. Camas will clinch the league title outright with its next win.

Then its off to the bi-district tournament, which will feature No. 1 Puyallup and other ranked teams like Graham-Kapowsin, Curtis and Mount Rainier.

Lauren Harris had nine digs, nine assists and seven kills for Skyviewl, which will try to wrap up second place in the league next Thursday at Union. Annie Hite added 10 assists, five digs and five kills.
