Letter: Pay attention, then vote

On one of our recent beautiful fall days, I took a nice walk through some neighborhoods near my Pleasant Valley home. It was also garbage/yard pickup day, and some also thought recycling pickup day. As I did my three-mile walk through very nice middle- and upper-middle class homes, I noticed between 25 and 33 percent of the houses had put out their big blue recycling bins in error.

I understand why, as this is the first week of our new every-other-week recycling pickup. Waste Management did in fact send out letters with instructions and many people did in fact read them. Others, some with their bins overflowing, did not.

I hope this poor showing by these Waste Management customers is not a portent for the Nov. 8 election. Please read as much as you can on the candidates and the issues on the ballot to make the best decisions for our local, county, state and national governments. As an aside, I saw 12 yard signs for Marie Perez and one for Joe Kent (two of the 12 Marie people also had their blue bins out); at least the signs weren’t in the bins.
