Maggie Tumelty went 5 for 8 and Megan Barrie was 5 for 7 as the Union slowpitch softball team clinched a berth to state with a two-game sweep of Battle Ground in the 4A district playoff Friday at Heritage.
Union struck for 10 runs in the second inning of the first game of the series, sparking the way to a 12-8 win. Tumelty went 2 for 4 with a home run and RBI, while Barrie was 3 for 3 with an RBI in Game 1.
A five-run first inning in the second game proved to be all the Titans would need in the clinching game, winning 10-3. Tumelty went 3 for 4 with an RBI, and Barrie was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.
Annali Lindersmith was 5 for 8 with a double and an RBI in the two games for Battle Ground.
