A man who was fatally wounded in a Sept. 30 shooting in Portland’s Hazelwood neighborhood was identified Tuesday as 35-year-old Dusty Baker of Vancouver.
Portland police announced Oct. 1 that Baker had succumbed to his injuries at a hospital. The medical examiner’s office confirmed the manner and cause of death to be homicide by gunshot wound. Baker’s family has been notified of his death, according to a news release from the Portland Police Bureau.
East precinct officers were notified around 2:15 a.m. about shots heard in the 200 block of Southeast 148th Avenue. A short time later, they learned a shooting victim had been taken to a hospital by a private vehicle. Officers responded to the shooting scene, police said.
That evening, police arrested Stephen Matthew Toelle in Happy Valley, Ore. Toelle, 31, of Portland was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center in Oregon on an arrest warrant for second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder, unlawful use of a weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm, the news release states.
