Nothing like tuning up for upcoming district cross country meets by producing top results at a big regional meet.
The Washougal girls won the Lewis & Clark Invitational on Saturday at Estacada, Ore., with two top-five and a third runner in the top 20 out of 174 finishers.
Senior Sydnee Boothby was second overall for the Panthers on the 5,000-meter course at Milo McIver State Park with a time of 18 minutes, 52.3 seconds, and junior Elle Thomas was fifth in 19:10.3.
Adding to the Panthers team score of 141 was Gracie Perry in 18th (20:17.1), Lauren Filipczak in 70th (22:15.1), and Emily Swigert in 77th (22:29.0).
Washougal finished four points in front of Corvallis (Ore.) for the team title out of 22 complete teams.
Hockinson freshman Lyla Taylor was eighth overall in 19:41.9 with the Hawks placing 10th in the team standings.
Washougal junior Samuel Grice was third overall in the boys race out of 235 runners with a time of 15:42.4.
The top local team was Columbia River’s eighth-place finish out of 31 complete teams. Sophomore Jacob McManus led the Rapids by placing 23rd in 16:48.6.
La Center volleyball wins Mountain View Invite
La Center’s Ella Schoene racked up 63 kills and 34 digs over six matches to help the Wildcats win the Mountain View Invite on Saturday. La Center beat host Mountain View 2-0 in the championship match with Schoene contributing 10 kills, seven blocks, seven digs and two aces.
