HOCKINSON — Kobe Parlin recovered a fumble in the end zone with 1:35 to play as the Mark Morris Monarchs escaped with a 35-31 win over the Hockinson Hawks in a thrilling 2A Greater St. Helens league game Friday at Hockinson High School.
Dossen Morrow carried the ball down to the goal line but fumbled and Parlin pounced on the ball for the game-winning touchdown.
Mark Morris improved to 4-1 in league play and 6-1 overall with the win. A victory over third-place Woodland next week will all but sew up a playoff spot for the Monarchs.
Hockinson (1-4 in league play, 2-5 overall) took the lead on an 11-yard touchdown pass from Jarod Oldham to Carter Cameron earlier in the quarter. The Hawks had the ball with a chance to win the game but fell inches short on a fourth-down play.
