Our warm and dry weather continues past the one-third mark here in October. Unless we had more than a trace of drizzle overnight or early this morning, we are on day 11 without measurable rainfall. It is somewhat unusual to not have had at least one soaking rain this far into early autumn. I don’t see any rain arriving through the upcoming weekend. What will the second half of the month bring?
With a string of 80-degree-plus days our average mean temperature is running 8.6 degrees above normal. Record territory for sure. Sunday’s high of 85 degrees was short of the record 89 degrees set in 1936. Saturday’s “hot” 87 degrees also fell short of the record high of 89 degrees in 1891. Yes, Vancouver’s weather records go back a long way, don’t they? They originally began off and on during the Fort Vancouver days of the middle 1800s.
After the clouds and low-level moisture move by today, skies will clear somewhat this afternoon and we should top out at about 70 degrees or so. I expect another hazy day. The clouds and drizzle over the foothills will be good news for the fire to our east.
Wednesday through the weekend we warm back up, although not as hot as last week. For now, I say 75 to 80 degrees each day. I may be a bit conservative on a day or two and we swell into the low 80s. Regardless, above-normal temperatures for middle October and rainless skies.
