Nominees for the 2022-23 Week 5 prep athlete of the week

Voting continues through 7 p.m. Thursday

Here are the nominees for the The Columbian 2022-23 Week 5 high school athlete of the week.

Voting will continue until 7 p.m. Thursday, with results announced in Friday’s edition of The Columbian.

Winners of the athlete-of-the-week may not be nominated again during the regular season, and no athlete may be nominated in consecutive weeks.

To avoid vote manipulation, voters must provide an email address. Votes are limited to one per day per email address.

Here are the nominees:

SARAH GARDNER, FORT VANCOUVER GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY: Gardner finished first in a league meet at Ridgefield, then placed second overall at the Flat and Fast Invitational in McMinnville, Ore.

JACK KENDRICK, COLUMBIA RIVER BOYS GOLF: Kendrick shot a 3-under 33 and a 4-under 32 in a pair of wins for the Rapids at Heron Lakes.

MADISEN NEWBURY, LA CENTER GIRLS SOCCER: Newbury had five goals and two assists as the Wildcats posted three league wins last week.

HAYDEN REICH, CAMAS BOYS CROSS COUNTRY: Reich placed eight overall in the Gold Division at the Nike Hole in the Wall Invitational in Arlington.

PAIGE STEPANIUK, RIDGEFIELD VOLLEYBALL: Stepaniuk had 16 digs and three aces in a win over Washougal and 10 digs, three aces and seven kills in a win over Hockinson.
