Columbia River had the game all but wrapped up by the end of the first half as the Rapids took care of the Hockinson Hawks 34-7 in a 2A Greater St. Helens League game Friday at John O’Rourke Field.

Columbia River’s first drive would take only four plays, scoring a touchdown as quarterback Adam Watts would use his legs to find the outside edge and hurdle the pylon on a 16-yard run.

In the second quarter following Gage Newman’s field to put the Rapids ahead 10-0, Hockinson was stopped on a fumble recovered by Keanu Butcher-Nguyen.

Hockinson’s next possession also resulted in a turnover when Columbia River’s Satchel Baskette picked off a second-down pass at the 21-yard line and returned it for a touchdown.

Columbia River again scored on a second-down interception by Reece Mickel for 24-0 advantage with five minutes to play before halftime.

Hockinson’s final drive of the half would result in a fumble recovered by the Rapids’ Diego Carrion.

The Hawks protected the ball on their first possession of the second half and found the endzone. Quarterback Jarod Oldham connected with John Charles for the 32-yard touchdown pass.

Columbia River answered as Watts found the outside edge and ran for a 37-yard touchdown.
