VANCOUVER — Several volunteers with Assistance League Southwest Washington have taken 129 local children in foster care on back-to-school shopping sprees at Fred Meyer.
This year, the Assistance League spent $21,000 on new clothes for children age 10 and older, including teenagers. Most of these kids are so excited to get brand-new clothes with tags for the first time in their lives. And they actually get to shop themselves.
The Assistance League also provided special shopping bags and quilts to each child. And it gave a thank-you coffee card to each Fred Meyer cashier and to the apparel staff who assisted in the back-to-school shopping events.
