We are presently in the doldrums of late autumn, as the stubborn ridge of high pressure that has been with us since summer remains anchored off our coast. I don’t see any soaking rains this week, either. The weak weather system that moved over us Friday brought only a trace of rain in Vancouver.
We will have highs near 50 and lows around freezing or below each day this week. East winds will blow off and on as well, as our weather continues to feel like it’s December, with well-below-average temperatures.
Our average high is 54 degrees, and our average low is 40 degrees. So far this month, about half of our days have had highs in the 40s and 50s. We are running about 4 degrees below normal for the month so far.
We are above average with rainfall at 3.08 inches, thanks to the nearly 2 inches we received Nov. 4. We should be around 2 inches at this point in November — cool and wet vs. warm and dry.
I wish I had some good news for skiers, but no snow is in the forecast for the next several days. It is possible we’ll see a change later this weekend and into the week of Thanksgiving, but not all the forecast models are on board with that weather pattern. There will be advances of cold air dropping from Canada to our far east, and some of that cold air may make it into the Columbia Basin. The best we’ll get from that will be brisk easterly winds in our favorable eastern county locations.
So, I guess this is a week to clean up the leaves, maybe cut the grass for the last time (we hope) and deck the outside of your home for the holidays in case we get inclement weather later.
Six years ago, about this time in November 2016, I was writing about how warm and dry it was. It was an amazing month, with the warmest start to November on record. I have never seen anything like it in all my years of watching the weather — and that is a long time! The first 13 days of the month were all in the 60s except for one day.
Take good care, and we’ll chat on Tuesday.
