After playing two seasons of baseball at Washington State, Cooper Barnum has switched schools and sports.
The sophomore from Skyview is now a defensive back for Montana. He recorded his first collegiate tackle in Saturday’s 57-0 win over Cal Poly.
Barnum was named the 4A Greater St. Helens League defensive player of the year as a junior in 2019. But his main sport was baseball, where he was rated as the fourth overall prospect in Washington by Prep Baseball Report.
Over two seasons, Barnum made 11 pitching appearances for Washington State. Last spring, he made two starts and had 13 strikeouts in 14 innings, posting a 3.14 ERA.
Barnum transferred to Montana ahead of fall camp. He made his first appearance Sept. 24 against Portland State, a team coached by his father, Bruce Barnum.
