Check it Out: Add these authors to your TBR list

Do you know about the Fort Vancouver Regional Library Foundation?

If you visit the library’s website, www.fvrl.org, you can find more information about this 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation including a link to the Foundation’s website. This organization supports Fort Vancouver Regional Libraries in its mission by raising funds through book sales and fundraisers such as the annual Authors and Illustrators Dinner and Silent Auction.

I bring this up because the Foundation recently held the 2022 Authors and Illustrators Dinner, and this year’s keynote speaker was Susan Orlean, the author of national bestselling titles including “The Library Book” and “The Orchid Thief.” The library has many of her books in a variety of formats, and I encourage readers to check the library’s catalog for holdings.

Knowing that this fundraiser has been in place for a number of years, I became curious about past keynote speakers.

Checking out the Foundation’s website provides a sampling of past authors, and I thought this might be of interest to readers of Check It Out. There’s a fun mix of fiction and nonfiction authors, and as it happens, several have published books in 2022 including Craig Johnson, Brad Meltzer and Nicholas Sparks.

If one (or more!) of these authors makes it to your TBR (To Be Read) pile, awesome sauce. Read on, readers.

  • “Dreamland” by Nicholas Sparks.
  • “Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone” by Diana Gabaldon.
  • “Hell and Back” by Craig Johnson.
  • “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” by Rebecca Skloot.
  • “The Lightning Rod” by Brad Meltzer.
  • “On Animals” by Susan Orlean.
  • “Where’d You Go, Bernadette” by Maria Semple.
