Skyview soccer player Dea Covarrubias is the The Columbian 2022-23 Week 8 high school athlete of the week.
Covarubbias received 288 votes to edge out Camas volleyball player Kendall Mairs for the honor.
The sophomore had four goals and one assist in three wins for the Storm, including a bi-district win over Bellarmine Prep.
Winners of the athlete-of-the-week may not be nominated again during the regular season, and no athlete may be nominated in consecutive weeks.
Five new nominees and a new ballot is posted every Tuesday with voting continuing through Thursday.

AUBREY HORNER, MOUNTAIN VIEW SWIMMING: The senior won the 200 individual medley, the 100 breaststroke and helped the Thunder win the 200 medley relay at the 3A bi-district meet.
NOAH LARSON, COLUMBIA RIVER BOYS GOLF: The junior shot a career-best 67 to force a tie for first, then had a runner-up finish in the tiebreaker at the 2A district tournament.
ELLA BERFANGER, UNION SLOWPITCH SOFTBALL: Berfanger went 11 for 14, scored five runs, added two doubles, a triple and six RBI in four games at the 4A state tournament.
KENDALL MAIRS, CAMAS VOLLEYBALL: The sophomore had 20 kills, 19 assists, 15 digs and four blocks in two wins for the first-place Papermakers.
