An Edmonds man, who is suspected of crimes in Clark County, appeared Friday in federal court, accused of escaping from an Oregon prison camp last month.
Andrew C. Kristovich, 38, is charged in U.S. District Court in Oregon with escaping from custody. He was ordered Friday to be detained while his case is pending, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of Oregon.
In the early morning hours of April 25, correctional officers at the federal prison in Sheridan, Ore., where Kristovich was being held discovered his bunk was empty. He was serving a five-year sentence after being convicted in the Western District of Washington of conspiring to distribute controlled substances and unlawfully using a controlled substance in possession of a firearm, the news release states.
Later that day, police conducted a welfare check at a house in Vancouver. A woman told officers that Kristovich told her he was being released from prison and asked her to pick him up, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. After she picked him up, Kristovich allegedly physically and sexually assaulted the woman and left in her car.
