Gruher, Lee 1-2 after Day 1 of state golf

Familiar place on leaderboard for Union, Camas players

Just like they did at the district and the bi-district tournament, Union’s Jade Gruher and Camas’ Jacinda Lee will go into the final round of the 4A state girls golf tournament holding down the top two spots at Hawks Prairie Golf Course in Lacey.

Lee teed off earlier in the day and held the lead with a round of 71 until Gruher posted a 70 two hours later.

With Lee leading the way, the Camas girls team sits in third place, just seven strokes behind first-place Issaquah. Jasmine Chen is tied for sixth at 74.

In the 4A boys tournament at Indian Summer in Olympia, Camas’ Eli Huntington is tied for fourth, three strokes off of the lead after a first-round 71.

The Mountain View boys remain in contention for the team title in the 3A tournament at Liberty Lake Golf Course. The Thunder are in fourth, 20 strokes behind leader Mercer Island.

The Thunder’s Grady Millar and Alex Rigby are tied for seventh at 71.

Mountain View’s Annika Yeh is tied for fifth in the 3A girls tournament at Meadowwood Golf Course in Liberty Lake after a first-round 73. She is five shots off the lead.

Woodland’s Dane Huddleston is the top placer after the first round of the 2A boys state tournament at Capitol City in Olympia. Huddleston is in ninth at 75, six strokes off the lead. Columbia River had four players make the cut.

Hockinson’s Grace Phillips leads locals at the 2A girls tournament at Tumwater Valley in 16th place at 84.

A pair of King’s Way Christian players are in the top 5 of the 1A girls tournament at Indian Canyon in Spokane. Riley Philbrook is fourth at 85 and Gracie Harlow is fifth at 86.

Jacob Parker of Seton Catholic is seventh at the 1A boys tournament at Indian Canyon with a 77.

Kalama’s Todd Tabor sits in third of the 2B/1B boys tournament at Deer Park Golf Club with a 75, three shots off the lead.
