We had a fast moving “sneaker” front move through midday Sunday that dumped about one quarter-inch of rain in the lowlands and one-half inch in the foothills. While writing my column Saturday afternoon for Sunday, it appeared that the rain shield would remain to our west and north up toward Cowlitz County. Even forecast models were confident that we would likely miss measurable rain.
But hey, it rained mostly from the noon hour to 3 p.m. and then was partly sunny and the official high was 69 degrees in Vancouver. Not too shabby I say. Remember I always say weather forecasting is not an exact science; there will always be hit and miss. Now if it had been an all-day event, well I may have been flooded with emails. The western portions of Clark County seemed to get some of the heaviest rain.
We all survived, and Monday was dry and partly sunny with afternoon temperatures running a bit cooler than Sunday in the low to mid 60s. Vancouver’s rainfall tally as of Monday was 2.88 inches well over the normal so far in the month of 1.23 inches. As mentioned here earlier, it has already surpassed the entire month’s normal rainfall.
We have increasing clouds later today and rain most of the day on Wednesday with lingering showers Thursday. I expect a quarter of an inch upward to one-half inch in the foothills. You’ll like Friday and Saturday with dry weather and highs back to seasonal normals. Sunday may be dry but it is iffy so showers may invade the scene.
