The Battle Ground Police Department has received several reports of auto prowls and thefts since Monday. Most of the incidents occurred in the northwest quadrant of the city — north of Main Street and west of state Highway 503.

Officers are investigating but have no suspect information, the department said in a news release Thursday.

The police department encourages people to:

  • secure your vehicle by rolling up windows and locking doors, trunks and canopies.
  • not leave valuable items in your vehicle, such as cellphones, mail, wallets and purses, firearms, or loose change.
  • park in well-lit areas or in a garage.

Residents are also encouraged to report any suspicious activity or crimes by calling 911. To report suspicious activity after the fact, call 311. If you witness a vehicle prowl, do not confront the suspect, but if possible, get a good description — height, weight, clothing and direction of travel.

“Awareness and information sharing gives law enforcement the tools they need to prevent and solve crimes, and protect our community,” the department said.
