CAMAS — The Camas Educational Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports the Camas School District, announced Wednesday that it awarded more than $28,000 in mini-grants to schools throughout the district.
The mini-grant program provides grants of up to $2,000 to support science, math, technology, performing arts, foreign language and more. Among the mini-grants awarded is a field trip to Portland, funding for book fairs and a set of new musical instruments.
In past years, the program collects most of its donations from larger, gala-style events, which haven’t been held in the last two years. This year’s award package, according to a spokesperson from the foundation, is the first major set of awards since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Julie Sparling, the foundation’s mini-grant chair, said in a press release Wednesday it received a record number of grant applications this year.
