Police chase, crash close Interstate 5 near La Center for hours

55-year-old Longview man dead

A 55-year-old Longview man was struck by a car and killed on Interstate 5 near La Center after leading police on a chase Friday night.

Robert J. Flubacher died at the scene, according to the Washington State Patrol. He was suspected of multiple assaults and attempted murder in Cowlitz County, according to Trooper Will Finn.

The crash at about 9 p.m. closed the freeway in both directions for hours. The freeway didn’t fully reopen until 1 a.m.

Officers used their cars and a spike strip to force the man’s car to a stop on the side of southbound I-5 near ilani. Flubacher tried to cross the freeway on foot. While he was crossing the northbound lanes, a car driven by Emily L. Kiger, 43, of Kalama struck him, according to the state patrol.

The state patrol is still investigating.
