A Vancouver man accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend during an argument and dumping her body at an Oregon state park in August appeared Monday in Clark County Superior Court.
Avreaunte Emmanuel Bennett, 24, appeared on suspicion of second-degree domestic violence murder, while armed with a firearm, and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm in the slaying of 21-year-old Stephanie Celeste Jones of Vancouver.

“That’s the greatest satisfaction I’ve had in retirement, looking back at some of these things,” Hoss said.
Bridges, roads, infrastructure — they’re inanimate things. So how can they not be fair to everyone? How can they not be equitable?
“We know that the (Departments of Transportation has) a commitment to equity on this program, as well as the program partners,” said Greg Johnson, program administrator of the Interstate Bridge Replacement Program. “And that comes out of a realization that transportation has not always been done in an equitable manner.”
Two robbery suspects were taken into custody Saturday evening after shooting at pursuing law enforcement officers in central Vancouver, according to Clark County sheriff’s Sgt. Adam Beck.
No one was wounded, and officers did not return fire, Beck said.
