Clark County court case backlog continues to grow

Logjam due to pandemic complicates resources, prolongs delays in processing

Last year was marked by starts and stops at the Clark County Courthouse — with COVID-19 surges and brief jury trial suspensions — causing a backlog of criminal cases that began in 2020 to grow even more severe.

Officials started 2021 hoping that rolling back some COVID-19 precautions could allow them to ramp up the pace of the criminal justice system, only to see the logjam grow even larger as the pandemic stretched into its second year.
