Typical March weather on tap this week with showers, steady rain, blue skies, hail, rainbows and maybe thunder. Let’s see, did I leave anything out? Today showers will be on the decrease, but a thunderstorm can’t be ruled out. A break in the action will be short-lived on Wednesday with steady rain back on Thursday.
The freezing level will bounce around with snow at the passes at times and then back to rain but snow should continue to fall at the timberline area and higher on both Mount St. Helens and Mount Hood. Local monthly rainfall is falling below the seasonal average for March but we’ll see what we can do to catch up to normal by the weekend. At least with plenty of clouds moving through we should avoid frosty conditions this week.
What I see on the dartboard on the wall is that Thursday, Saturday and next Monday offer the heaviest bouts of rainfall coming up. Nothing really exciting to offer you this week weatherwise as we inch closer to the spring equinox at 8:33 a.m. Sunday. Then besides us weather and climate folks, who are already in the meteorological spring, everyone will be officially in the realm of spring.
Some in the business are calling for a wet and cool spring lasting into May and for others a coin toss is sufficient. I guess we will see how it pans out. Taking it a few days at a time is less stressful, so here we are. Today is the ides of March and the full moon follows Friday at midnight. This full moon is the last one of winter and is called the full worm moon. That will be appealing to the robins, which will be out in full force, I’m sure, especially with our wet soil this week.
