City staff invited people of all ages to share their vision for a future park while sipping some coffee, tea and cocoa from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at Walnut Grove Elementary School, 6103 N.E. 72nd Ave.
Vancouver Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services will speak about plans to improve the Raymond E. Shaffer Park in the north-central area of the city at the intersection of Northeast 58th Street and 76th Avenue. The undeveloped 17-acre landscape consists of grassy fields scattered with fir trees and dirt trails. The suggested designs include a playground, sport areas, picnic shelters and dog parks.
City planners are in the early stages of the project to increase the community’s access to nature and other amenities, as the design and construction phase will take a few years. The park is named after previous owner Edith Shaffer’s late husband, Raymond, and was sold to the city of Vancouver in 2010.
