The city of Vancouver announced its nationwide search for its next police chief Tuesday, as the June retirement of Chief James McElvain, its longest-serving police department head approaches.
The city contracted with Bob Murray and Associates to help manage the hiring process and is aiming to appoint a police chief in June.
Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent amount of education and training for the position, according to the job description. They must also have at least five years of executive leadership experience in law enforcement, as well as three years of experience as a police chief. The salary range is $178,116 to $231,624.
Community members can share what they deem are essential qualities for someone in the lead position. An anonymous survey on Be Heard Vancouver will remain open through April 15. People can contact the city at 360-487-8712 to receive a paper submission.
