A Camas woman died Saturday after she fell into the water near Spirit Falls and couldn’t get out.

Skamania County sheriff’s deputies responded at 11:57 a.m. to a report of a dead person floating in the water near the Fish Hatchery at the inlet of the Little White Salmon River at Drano Lake, an agency news release states.

Deputies and a Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife officer recovered the body of Debby Lynn Lail, 54. Investigators determined Lail parked along Cook-Underwood Road and took the trail to Spirit Falls with her dog, according to the news release.

The sheriff’s office said the trail becomes more treacherous closer to the waterfall.

Near the waterfall, Lail fell into the water and was injured. The news release states she was unable to get to safety by herself.

The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy and determine Lail’s cause of death.
