The Department of Transportation opened an application period Friday for its $2.36 billion Bridge Investment Program to improve America’s bridge infrastructure.
U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee chair, urged Washington counties and municipalities to apply for the competitive federal funding. The Interstate 5 Bridge and North Fork Bridge are among projects within the state that are eligible for the grants.
Bridge projects costing less than $100 million and larger developments exceeding $100 million are eligible. The latter are eligible for multiyear grants. An additional $20 million is available for planning projects and $40 million for tribal transportation bridges. Each type of grant has its own application deadline.
