Jared Kushner reportedly wrote that he had thyroid cancer in 2019 while serving as a aide to his father-in-law, former President Donald Trump.
The 41-year-old Livingston, N.J., native said in an upcoming memoir viewed by Reuters that White House physician Sean Conley broke the news that he had screened positive and need surgery “right away.”
News of Kushner’s illness had not previously been disclosed. He said he had surgery to remove the growth shortly before Thanksgiving. Kushner, who’s married to the 45th president’s daughter Ivanka Trump, said the former commander-in-chief found out he was going in for surgery, much to Kushner’s surprise.
“I’m the president,” he said Trump told him. “I know everything.”
According to Kushner, part of his thyroid was removed during a period of trade negotiations with China.
