Letter: Battle Ground creek is Woodin

I read with interest The Columbian’s opinion on the Battle Ground scooter program (“In Our View: Battle Ground scooter program one to watch,” The Columbian, July 13). Then I read that the scooters could end up in Weaver Creek. Battle Ground’s creek is Woodin Creek, named after Joe Woodin, a trusted early mail carrier. Some ill-informed map maker wrongly named Battle Ground’s creek years ago and the misnomer still appears on maps today.

So if anyone has a Battle Ground map around and it does not show our creek as Woodin Creek, at least correct it on that copy. We can’t do much about the fallacy out there on the internet where the error often appears. Where is Weaver Creek? It might be in Yacolt since there is a Weaver Creek Road there.
