The Marshall Adult and Youth Leadership Awards are coming up, and there’s been some changes this year.
The Marshall Leadership Awards were named for Gen. George C. Marshall, the former Vancouver Barracks commander who won the Nobel Peace Prize for his work as secretary of state in the Truman administration. The awards are meant to recognize locals who have demonstrated leadership, civic engagement and commitment to public service. The program is a joint effort by the city of Vancouver and The Historic Trust.
This year, scholarships for both youth and adult awards have increased to $3,500. Scholarships can be used for advanced education or professional development of the winner’s choice. Additionally, a one-day workshop for all nominees will be held in Vancouver. The workshop will feature multiple local leaders. Attendees will be able to connect with prominent leaders in the community, network with past Marshall Award recipients and learn about Marshall’s remarkable life and career.
Nominees for both the youth and adult categories must be residents of Clark County. They must be committed to serving a greater good, demonstrate leadership potential and serve as a role model for others.
