Heavy winds pushed a barge tow aground Thursday morning near McGuire Island on the Columbia River west of Camas.

Tidewater Transportation’s tug, the Sundial, which was towing three loaded grain barges and one empty bin barge, was pushed aground near Mile 118 on the Columbia River, according to the transportation company.

No one was injured, and there is no threat of pollution to the river, Tidewater stated in a news release.

The U.S. Coast Guard responded and Tidewater’s maintenance staff assessed damages. The hull of the lead grain barge was damaged but is stable, according to Tidewater. Another tug, the Rebel, also assisted.
