We may as well review December’s rainfall from around the area before time runs away from us. Rob Starr, Cougar, 19.75 inches; Jim Knoll, Five Corners, 8.95 inches; Judy Darke, Felida, 6.87 inches; Robin Ruzek, Lakeshore, 7.12 inches; Chuck Houghten, Hockinson Heights, 10.94 inches; Tyler Mode, Battle Ground, 8.82 inches; Bob Mode, Minnehaha, 5.71 inches; Irv St. Germain, Prune Hill, 7.97 inches; Steve Dawson, Leroy Haagen Park, 8.40 inches; Claudia Chiasson, Carson, 18.99 inches; Bill Sobolewski, Livingston Mountain, 9.20 inches; Murphy Dennis, Rawson Road, 13.20 inches; Dick Lenahan, Meadow Glade, 7.12 inches; Larry Lebsack, Barberton, 7.74 inches; Ellen Smart, Ridgefield, 8 inches; John Butler, east Vancouver, 10 inches; and Dave Campbell, one mile west of Heisson, 9.15 inches. The official rainfall for Vancouver was 6.07 inches, a little above average. Our friend Roland Derksen in Vancouver, B.C., recorded 7.07 inches.

It is amazing that several of these observers have already in the first 10 days of this month recorded the same or much more than last month. And we have three weeks to go. The good news is it doesn’t look like any heavy rains heading our way; only showers or light rains are in the offerings. We may score a dry weekend or at least part of it.

Get your holiday decorations put away from outside? Managed that but a little slow on the inside house. It was so gloomy last week that I decided to leave indoor holiday trimmings up. More minutes of daylight are showing up with daylight lasting beyond 5 p.m. now. Can you feel spring?

Wishful thinking, I believe. The extended outlook the next two weeks calls for warmer and drier than average. The eastern half of the nation gets the cold stuff. Although a few forecast models indicate some possible chilly air arriving by month’s end into early February. We’ll see, meanwhile we enjoy some quiet time.

So far this month, Vancouver has measured 3.90 inches of rain, about 1.5 inches above average. Our average mean temperature is running about a degree above normal. Mild and wet it is then.

Take good care and we’ll chat on Thursday.
