A large sinkhole is shutting down state Highway 504 at milepost 13.5 near Tower Road east of Toutle. The Washington State Department of Transportation is telling drivers on the road they’ll need to take an alternate route and expect delays until further notice.
The section of the highway closed in both directions at 8 a.m. on Monday.
Crews will need to cut out existing pavement, excavate under the roadway and fill the hole with concrete before the repair is finished.
The department says drivers should use state Highway 505 as an alternate route and plan for delays.
