Michelle Gutierrez wasn’t due to give birth to her second child until Jan. 10. However, Liam Antonio Gutierrez became PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center’s New Year Baby when he was born at 9:42 a.m. Saturday.

Gutierrez said she came to the hospital around 10 p.m. Friday when she began having contractions during a New Year’s Eve celebration. But her contractions were too far apart, and she was told to go back home. Then, when contractions woke her up early in the morning, she knew it was go time. She joked that she barely made it in time because Liam was ready to come out as soon as they got into a room.

Liam weighs 8 pounds and measured 20 inches long. Dad Erik Cazares joined mom at the hospital. Gutierrez also has a 9-year-old daughter.

After resting up at the hospital, she said, she plans to take Liam home soon and will be telling him the story of his surprise New Year’s Day arrival as he grows up.
