Another last-second shot for the Union Titans, but a bit of heartbreak Thursday.

Yanni Fassillis’ 3-point attempt went off the rim as the buzzer sounded and Curtis (20-2) escaped with a 60-57 win over the Titans (16-3) in the 4A bi-district semifinal.

The Titans battled all the way back from a 16-point deficit after the first quarter to tie the game at 47-47 entering the fourth quarter.

It came down the final 1.6 seconds and Evan Eschels inbounded the ball in front of the Titans’ bench to Fassillis in the opposite corner. Fassillis got off a contested 3-point shot but the ball hit the rim and bounced off as the horn sounded.

Fassillis still had a big effort by leading all scorers with 24 points. Bryson Metz had 14 points, and Jamison Limbrick had 10.

Union, which already has a state regional berth wrapped up, will take on Federal Way at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Curtis High School in the third-place game.
