DJ Edmondson scored 25 points and Evergreen turned up the defensive presure in the second half to beat Capital of Olympia 56-43 in a loser-out game in the 3A boys basketball bi-district tournament in Olympia.

Evergreen now gets two chances to advance to the regional round of state. The Plainsmen will play at Gig Harbor on Friday. If they lose that game, Evergreen would get another chance to advance on Saturday.

Capital took a 26-25 lead into halftime Wednesday after scoring the last six points of the second quarter.

“Then we put the clamps down defensively in the second half,” Evergreen coach Brett Henry said. “Carmelo Stewart guarded their best player (Carl Schreck) and held him scoreless in the second half.”

Juelz Mendoza added seven points for the Evergreen.

“We eliminated offensive rebounds and created turnovers in the second half,” Henry said.
