Woodin Creek volunteer cleanup scheduled

Volunteers are invited to help restore habitat at the Hidden Glen open space park along Woodin Creek during planting events Feb. 26 and March 19. The creek serves as a tributary to Salmon Creek that flows west into the Columbia River.

The volunteer planting events are part of the larger Woodin Creek restoration project led by the Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership. The project is funded by a grant from the Washington Department of Ecology to restore local habitats, protect its ecosystems and engage the community in sustaining local waterways that lead to the Columbia River.

Restoration efforts began in 2019 with the removal of invasive plant species — primarily blackberry — from the park. Volunteers continued their work in 2020, planting more than 1,000 native species to support the health and sustainability of Woodin Creek, which flows through the park.

This year, volunteers will plant 3,000 more plants in the park. Anyone interested in getting their hands dirty can meet at the park from 9 a.m. to noon on Feb. 26 and March 19.
