Aaron Hoey’s putback basket with 10 seconds left gave Columbia River a 65-63 win over Hudson’s Bay on Tuesday.
River’s win on its home court clinched fifth place in the 2A Greater St. Helens League and a spot in the district tournament play-in game against the fourth-place team in the Evergreen Conference.
Hoey led Columbia River (7-7, 7-11) with 18 points. He and Adam Reeder each scored nine points in the third quarter, in which the Rapids outscored the Eagles 27-17 after trailing 26-18 at halftime.
Joey Gordon scored 26 points for Hudson’s Bay (2-14, 2-11). The Eagles drew a foul in the final seconds, but missed two free throws.
Boys basketball
R.A. LONG 56, WOODLAND 42 — Cavin Holden scored 20 points and the Lumberjacks remained unbeaten in 2A GSHL play.
Woodland put up a fight. The host Beavers led after one quarter and trailed 24-20 at halftime before R.A. Long took control early in the third quarter.
“Credit to them, they’re a good team,” Woodland coach Jesse Buck said of the Lumberjacks. “They don’t make a ton of mistakes. You give them a run like that, it’s hard to get it back.”
Justin Philpot led Woodland (11-5, 9-4) with 24 points and hit four 3-pointers.
Despite missing 6-foot-8 forward Aaron Ofstun, R.A. Long (13-2, 11-0) had a 44-27 rebounding advantage.
CASTLE ROCK 68, LA CENTER 48 — It was rockin’ at the Rock as the Rockets kept the intensity high all game and won the Trico League-matchup over visiting La Center.
Castle Rock’s Lane Partridge led all scorers with 25 points, and Adam Partridge had 19, with Landon Gardner adding 11.
“It’s a fun rivalry,” Castle Rock coach Hayden Titlton said. “These seniors hadn’t beat La Center in football or basketball their whole careers so we wanted to get this for them.”
Colby Hylton led La Center in scoring with 14 points. Austin Nixon had 12 and Boston Walker 10.
Girls basketball
RIDGEFIELD 62, WOODLAND 36 — Kelli Krsul scored 13 points and the Spudders had 21 steals to smother the Beavers in a 2A GSHL home win.
Elizabeth Swift added 11 points for Ridgefield (5-12, 4-10), which snapped a six-game skid.
Sophia Speranza and Riley Stading each scored 11 points for Woodland (4-13, 2-11).
