Tait Spencer scored 46 points to lead the Battle Ground boys basketball team at 91-87 win over Kamiak of Mukilteo in the championship game of the Fort Bracket of the Fort Vancouver Holiday Classic on Friday night.
The game was tight throughout, with Battle Ground pushing ahead 67-63 after three quarters.
The Tigers maintained their lead through the fourth quarter, but Kamiak was able to cut the deficity to 88-87 on Josiah Pierre’s basket with 30.2 seconds left.
Battle Ground was able to quickly break the Kamiak press before Spencer drew the foul and hit two free throws for a 90-87 lead with 26.2 seonds.
Kamiak had a couple of chances to draw closer, but the Knights missed a free throw and then had a turnover that led to Spencer’s clinching free throw with 6.3 seconds to play.
Ty Robertson scored 17 for the Tigers. Trey Spencer added 16, and Noah Currie had 10.
The win was seventh in a row for Battle Ground (8-1) as the Tigers return to 4A Greater St. Helens League play on Tuesday at Skyview.
R.A. LONG 52, MOUNTAIN VIEW 37 — Cavin Holden provided the offense, and the Lumberjack defense did the rest, holding Mountain View to a season-low 37 points in winning the Trapper Bracket at the Fort Vancouver Holiday Classic.
Holden scored 31 points to lead the Lumberjacks, who took control with a 20-14 second quarter, going up 27-22 at halftime. Then R.A. Long never let Mountain View make a serious run in the second half. Lonnie Brown Jr., added eight points for the Lumberjacks.
Jacob Martin led Mountain View 12 points, and Ledarius Washington added 8.
LAKEWOOD 46, RIDGEFIELD 43 — The Spudders went cold in the second half, especially so in the fourth quarter, and lost the SunDome Shootout in Yakima.
The Spudder hit six 3-pointers in the first half to build a 34-23 lead.
Despite scoring just six points in the third quarter, Ridgefield still led 40-31.
But Ridgefield managed only a Damion Jiles basket and a Sid Bryant free throw in the final eight minutes as Lakewood rallied to win.
Cole Chester scored 14 of his 16 in the first half for Ridgefield. Bryant added 11.
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST (Penn.) 56, SKYVIEW 55 — The Storm missed a pair of last-second shots and fell in the third-place game of the Cactus Bracket at the Cactus Jam tournament in Phoenix.
Skyview started out well taking a 21-12 lead after one quarter and leading 32-24 at halftime.
But Central Bucks East hit six 3-pointers in the third quarter to take a four-point lead.
Skyview reclaimed the lead three times in the fourth quarter. But Joey Giordano’s two free throws with 14 seconds left put Central Bucks East up 56-55.
Skyview’s Demaree Collins had a driving runner in the lane that rolled around the rim, but did not fall. Malakai Weimer got the rebound, but could not convert the putback at the buzzer.
Collins led Skyview with 18 points, and Weimer added 14.
COLLEGE PARK (Texas) 75, UNION 52 — Yanni Fassillis scored a game-high 32 points, but it was not enough for the Titans to keep up with College Park (Texas) in the third-place game of the Senators Braket of the Torrey Pines (Calif.) Holiday Classic.
PENINSULA 59, KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 53 — Giovanny Evanson scored 22 points as the Knights lost their final game at the Cactus Jam tournament in Phoenix.
RIDGEVIEW (Ore.) 57, LA CENTER 50 — Poor free-throw shooting once again sunk the Wildcats against Ridgeview of Redmond, Ore., at the Oregon Holiday Hoopfest in Bend. Ore.
Austin Nixon score 18 points to lead the Wildcats, who trailed 34-33 after three quarters.
But La Center went 4 for 11 from the free-throw line in the final period, while Ridgeview converted 10 of 11 to seal the win.
MARK MORRIS 69, BREWSTER 64 — Braydon Olson and Kobe Parlin combined for 21 of the Monarchs’ 23 fourth-quarter points, rallying Mark Morris to a win at the SunDome Shootout in Yakima.
Mark Morris trailed 51-46 after three quarters before Parlin scored 12 points and Olson added nine to rally the Monarchs.
Olson finished with 25 points, and Parlin had 22.
CASTLE ROCK 58, FRIDAY HARBOR 42 — Chase Rusher scored 17 points and Trystin Marin added 16 as the Rockets bounced back from a lopsided loss to Napavine on Thursday.
Castle Rock coach Andrew Johnson also credited Rusher with leading the defensive effort for the Rockets.
Castle Rock outscored Friday Harbor 11-4 in the third quarter to open a 45-32 lead.
