A Vancouver man was arrested early Sunday morning on suspicion of drunken driving after he apparently dozed off behind the wheel and rolled into a deputy sheriff’s patrol vehicle.

Clark County sheriff’s deputies responded shortly before 2 a.m. to assist the Washington State Patrol at the scene of a crash blocking Northeast 117th Avenue, just south of Northeast Padden Parkway, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

Due to the serious nature and size of the crash scene, traffic was stopped on 117th Avenue to allow medics to treat patients at the scene. Deputies had positioned their patrol vehicles in the northbound lanes of 117th Avenue to block traffic, the news release states.

Felagai Moananu, 41, was one of the motorists stopped in traffic. A trooper noticed Moananu appeared to doze off behind the wheel of his pickup before it rolled forward and hit an unoccupied Clark County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle. No one was injured, according to the sheriff’s office.

Moananu was booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence.
