The Prairie girls basketball team held defending league champion Kelso to just one field goal in the second half on its way to a 39-29 victory over the Hilanders in 3A Greater St. Helens girls basketball action Friday night in Brush Prairie.

Kelso had just one field goal in the final 16 minutes — a 3-pointer in the third quarter — and held Kelso to six second-half points.

Coach Mike Smith praised his Falcons, especially their “tremendous” second-half effort defensively. It came after Kelso raced out to a 14-2 lead in the first quarter.

“We just came out flying around with our full-court press and dropped back into an intense 2-3 zone,” Smith said.

Freshman Emma Smith led Prairie with 11 points and Claire Smith chipped in 10. Lexi Grumbois led Kelso with 11 points, but picked up her third foul early in the third quarter.

“(We) could not get into a rhythm in the second half,” Hilanders coach Jennifer Hamilton said. “Unfortunately this may hurt us later in the season, but we will learn from this.”

WASHOUGAL 64, R.A. LONG 30 — Isabella Albaugh recorded her second consecutive 20-plus-point effort and Hadley Jones set a program record for rebounds in the Panthers’ 2A GSHL victory over R.A. Long.

Albaugh poured in a game-high 22 points and Jones hauled in 21 rebounds. Jones’ mark broke the previous record for rebounds in a game (20) set in 2017.

MOUNTAIN VIEW 39, BATTLE GROUND 31 — Camaria Brown had 13 points and NIna Peterson added 11 as the Thunder picked up their second win of the season.

COLUMBIA RIVER 44, FORT VANCOUVER 21 — Emma Iniguez’s 11 points paced the Rapids in their league win at home. Trian Clark led Fort with nine points.

UNION 78, RIDGEFIELD 25 — The 4A Titans held a 40-point halftime lead on their way to remaining unbeaten.
