Prep basketball: Philpot, Swett lead Woodland boys to 73-67 overtime win against Columbia River

Justin Philpot scored 23 points and Beau Swett had 22 as Woodland overcame a sluggish fourth quarter to beat Columbia River 73-67 in overtime in a 2A Greater St. Helens League boys basketball game on Wednesday.

Down 39-30 at halftime, River forced overtime by holding the Beavers to just five fourth quarter points, tying the game 65-65.

But Dane Huddleston scored five points in the overtime period to lift the Beavers.

Hezekiah Ponder had 22 points to lead River. Adam Reeder added 15 points, and Aaron Hoey hit two big 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and finished with 14 points.

R.A. LONG 81, HOCKINSON 36 — Cavin Holden hit seven 3-pointers and outscored the entire Hockinson team, scoring 37 points in the 2A Greater St. Helens League opener for both teams.

Jaxon Cook added 14 points for R.A. Long, and Payton Thill had 11.

Logan Wall led Hockinson with 10 points.

Girls basketball

WOODLAND 59, LA CENTER 24 — Riley Stading, Sydney George and Kenzi Bunger scored 10 points each as Woodland cruised to a non-league win.

Talia Wise led La Center with six points.
