We experienced winter’s first punch of the white stuff here at city levels Sunday but as I mentioned here earlier, not much to fret about. It was pretty to watch it fall and, in some locations, accumulate briefly on the ground. Roadways for the most part were only wet or slushy unless you were in higher elevations.
Forecast models were accurate on the moisture with an inch or less of snow here and there at the lower elevations. Salmon Creek had about an inch but of course varied where you live on the sticking part. I saw a small snowman in the Salmon Creek area.
The cold and snow are out of the picture for the next week or so here in the lowlands and we will be stuck in a gray overcast winter skyscape with little sunshine the rest of the week and into the weekend. Only drips and dapples of moisture until a stronger good old wintertime storm arrives late Wednesday through Friday.
We’ll see moderate to heavy rains and breezy conditions with the mountains getting much more snow. Our high temperatures will remain on the cool side, about in the 40- to 45-degree range, but we forgo the freezing overnight temperatures due to the persistent cloud cover. Chilly, damp and gray are on the weather menu.
