Weather Eye: More hot days before weekend cools

It was back to the hot stuff Monday with afternoon temperatures in the low 90s in most areas of the county. Today we jump a few degrees to the mid-90s and then near 90 degrees Wednesday. I’m afraid we must add another day on Thursday. As of my writing Monday afternoon it was officially 93 degrees at the weather station in Vancouver. Whew!

Monday’s high was the 23rd day this summer of 90 degrees or higher. Could we add another three days this week? Goodness that would place us at 26 days.

We cool down to the 80s Friday through the weekend. Looking ahead to next week, the first full week of September it is quite possible we will reach 90 degrees once again. Nothing for sure but some forecast models say yes to that scenario.

I see the almanacs are appearing in the grocery stores with their winter predictions. I know, I promised not to write about winter until September presents itself.

The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a heat advisory for us from noon today until 9 p.m. this evening. I’ll spare you the advisory details. You certainly know the drill after 23 days of hot weather this summer. I guess August goes out with a bang and one of the warmest in a long while.

It was a pleasant day along our coastline Monday with temperatures in the 70s and 80s. The coast may see more fog or log clouds along the beaches themselves later in the week. That is normal given the hot temperatures inland.

As we all know, September is coming up. It’s generally one of the most pleasant months at the coast weather-wise. The beaches tend to be less crowded after the Labor Day weekend.

I’m getting so excited as the first day of the meteorological beginning of autumn is Thursday.

Fall is my favorite time of the year, what with watching the seasons change with brilliant colors, autumn activities and still plenty of pleasant weather on the way.

And we will talk more about that in my next column.

Keep cool, hydrated and we’ll chat Thursday.
